I found Gary's name by chance and hired him to come for a tree health appraisal at our house. We have a large yard with many trees, which Gary walked with my partner and I to discuss our goals. One in particular was to save an old and ailing olive tree. Gary said it was about 90% dead and he couldn't guarantee its survival, but he put some special fertilizer down that day to help rejuvenate it. At the time of this writing, a little over a week later, I am starting to see some new leaves growing on it. I am hopeful he helped to save this beautiful tree. He then also wrote us a quote, reasonably priced, to lace out the many trees in our front yard as well as in our orchard. Gary was enjoyable to speak with and I felt comfortable entrusting him with our mature trees, due to his obvious expertise, so we hired him for this additional work. He was back in a few days' time and did quite a lot of trimming. Some of this effort could even be considered fire hardening, as branches that are below the six foot mark on a tree's trunk are a bit of a fire hazard. So I am pleased about that additional benefit! Overall, we felt our trees were in good hands and that Gary's services were competitively priced. I would also be remiss not to mention how generous he was with his time answering my questions, enthusiastically engaging with me as a fellow lover of plants. Thank you, Gary!
Gary knows trees, and did a beautiful job trimming and feeding several of ours. They look much more "tree-like" now, and he got rid of the branches that were encroaching on the house. He cautioned us that our initial instinct on pruning wasn't in the trees' best interests, which we appreciated (we want our trees to be happy). He saw that our magnolia was doing poorly (we thought it was supposed to be light green) and fertilized it. It looked better the next day, already a deeper, lusher green.
We have two 60-foot Canary Island Pines that were being destroyed from the top down by bark borer beetles. Two arborists told us they were beyond hope and to just cut them down. Then we found Gary. He topped the trees, fertilized with his special formulation, found an insect treatment for us, and instructed us on a strict regimen of deep soaking. Three years later, the trees are thriving! Gary brought them back to life! Since then, Gary has revitalized our orange tree, pruned our melaleuca and olive trees, and planted tristania, fig and plum trees. We live in the Clairemont area on the canyon. The center of our yard is a huge, mature oak tree. Like so many of the oaks in San Diego County, our tree was looking very sparse and seemed to be deteriorating rapidly. We called Gary at Green Tree and he assessed our problem, treated the tree and prescribed a treatment plan. He checked in on us regularly and made further suggestions. Gary helped bring my trees back to life! I had my landscaper install a 10 ft' olive tree which after 4 months appeared to not transition well and looked like it was dying with bare, twiggy branches despite being watered. Gary did a Tree Health Appraisal, followed by lacing and fertilization, and recommended a complete soak watering schedule. He did a great job and it flourished after that. We again used his services for a carrotwood tree that had not been given any love in years. Two years later, we reached out again and Gary helped with the same olive tree and carrotwood to lace and lighten them up. They look lovely. I appreciate his eye for which branches to cut.
